SHILLONG: In view of his inability to attend in person the concluding ceremony of the two-day Centenary Celebration of Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS), a worldwide philanthropic organization, scheduled for Sunday in the city, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to address the Maha Dharma Sammelan via live video conferencing.
Modi’s address will go live in three giant screens being erected at the Sri Aurobindo Institute of India Culture (SAIIC) where Assam, Meghalaya Governor, Banwarilal Purohit and a host of VIPs from the state and monks will be present.
Modi’s address will be preceded by a street pageant, the previous day, where a chariot dedicated to the event will arrive from Guwahati and parade through Shillong city.
The chariot, in lead will be followed by a rally of around hundred vehicles, which have traveled all over the country and will culminate their journey here.  BSS, secretary, Shillong Branch, Swami Damodarananda Maharaj said that they had sent an invitation to the Prime Minister requesting him to grace the occasion as chief guest. While informing that the BSS request was sent to the PMO at a short notice, the secretary acknowledged the magnanimity of the PM for accepting the offer by making himself available through live video streaming despite his hectic schedule.
This is the first time that the PM will address a public gathering of devotees and common men in Meghalaya.
