SHILLONG: More than 10 cases charge sheeted by the CBI is pending in the District and Sessions Court, East Khasi Hills for the last six months in the absence of a prosecutor of the central investigation agency.
The District and Sessions Judge also functions as the Special Judge, CBI.
An official source said on Tuesday that besides District and Sessions Court, a few cases are also pending in the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate.
Earlier, senior Advocate VK Jindal was the prosecutor for CBI in the lower court, but he is currently taking up the CBI related cases only in the High Court. In the past though advocates Tsering Yangi and A Y Sarki were appointed as CBI lawyers to deal with the cases in the lower court, they had resigned from the posts and the CBI is yet to appoint new lawyers. Sources said that the delay in appointing the CBI prosecutors will hamper the delivery of justice.
