High Court asks Govt to appoint public prosecutor

SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has asked the State Government to immediately appoint public prosecutor and additional public prosecutor to take up the pending cases against the government.
While taking up two cases against the State Government related to Tenderly Hynniewta whose counsel is M.F Qureshi and Small Phawa represented by S.P Mahanta, the High Court said government lawyer cannot take up these cases.
As per CrPC, only public prosecutors can take up such cases.
The High Court hence asked the  State Government to appoint a public prosecutor in consultation with the Court.
The matter will come up for hearing on May 24.
