SHILLONG: Top women’s wing leaders of BJP will visit the State on May 22.
The in charge of the State Mahila Morcha’s media cell, Deeya Rathore said on Wednesday national president of BJP Mahila Morcha Vijaya Rahatkar and national secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha Pooja Kapil Mishra will meet local leaders and booth-level party workers “to motivate and strengthen” the Meghalaya unit for the 2018 election.
When asked on the role of the state BJP women’s wing in the upcoming party elections, Rathore replied that “it will play a big role” without giving much details.
Pelcy Snaitang, president of Mahila Morcha, said 30 mandals of the BJP Mahila have been formed and many such units will be constituted in 30 constituencies in the next few months.
Asked about her views on the rising crime against women, Snaitang said the Government is not doing enough to ensure law and order.
“It is an important issue and we have not heard any women legislators coming out strongly (against this),” she added.
When asked on the controversial issue of cow vigilantism and the party’s alleged anti-minorities stand, Rathore said, “The food, way of life of the people will be protected by all means. The North Eastern region and its sensibilities will be protected.”
