RESUBELPARA: The fifth annual get-together of the Village Sordar Association this year at Salapara in North Garo Hills focused on improvement in health facilities in the district.
The programme, which was organised on Friday, drew over 200 participants from Mendipathar and its adjacent areas. Health facilities in Manikganj, Mendipathar and Damas on the Assam Meghalaya border need improvement as most of the patients suffer due to lack of infrastructure. They are compelled to go to the neighbouring Goalpara and Dudnoi in Assam.
For many poor villagers, travelling to the neighbouring state for treatment is a luxury and they are the worst sufferers, the gathering conceded. It was decided that a memorandum will be submitted to Health Minister Roshan Warjri.
Youth leader Digros D. Shira urged Government to take measures to improve the ailing healthcare in the district.
Later, Paul Marak, president of the Association and another leader, Polyngcarb Ch Marak, spoke on various socio-economic, law and order and unemployment issues.
