SHILLONG: The ‘supporters’ of UDP’s Nongkrem MDC HS Shylla have opposed his decision to back HSPDP president Ardent Basaiawmoit in the 2018 Assembly election. Shylla’s supporters from Mylliem Lum instead decided to throw their weight behind Congress ticket aspirant John Kharshiing in the upcoming polls.
In a statement issued to the press, the supporters Wington Nongkhlaw and others stated that they cannot accept the individual decision of Shylla.
Shylla had recently stated that sacrifice was the need of the hour to bring about unity among regional parties. Setting an example of sacrifice, he had said that he will not contest the Assembly elections and will instead give an opportunity to Nongkrem MLA Basaiawmoit to fight the polls.
Mylliem Lum includes areas like Pomlakrai, Mawpynthih, Mawiong Mawsing and Lyngkienship.
