College team from Tura robbed of excursion money

TURA: A group of students and lecturers from Tura Government College had a bitter experience on their trip to North India when it was robbed of over RS 1 lakh meant for excursion expenses.
The incident happened at Ghaziabad station near Delhi on Monday morning.
There are 10 students, two lecturers and an office assistant in the group that left Tura on May 20 for an excursion trip to Delhi and the hill station of Manali in Himachal Pradesh.
Their train reached Ghaziabad railway station around 3 am on Monday when the incident occurred. Their train had been scheduled to dock at 7.30 pm the previous night but got delayed.
The excursion team was then getting their travelling bags ready to disembark.
Professor Reuter Balzack M. Sangma, who was carrying a bag around his neck containing the excursion trip money and seated inside the train, was targeted by the snatcher.The man stretched his hand through the window and grabbed the bag containing the money. The professor tried to fend off the attack but in vain.
“It happened so suddenly that we were unable to react. I tried to hold back the bag but it was too late,” said Professor Sangma.
The professor’s mobile phone, ATM card, identity cards along with the excursion money of Rs. 1.30 lakh were lost in the theft.
The team later lodged an FIR at Anand Vihar railway police station before proceeding on with their journey.
