TURA: A head-on collision involving a motorcycle and a public transport bus left two bikers dead and another injured near Mahendraganj town of South West Garo Hills district on Sunday afternoon.
The tragic incident occurred at Durgapara village, 6 kms from the border town of Mahendraganj.
A public transport bus (ML08 A 1987) filled with passengers coming from Dalu via Mahendraganj en route to Ampati and Mankachar in Assam rammed into a motorcycle (ML-14 0530) carrying three young men who were coming from the opposite direction around 4:30pm.
The driver of the bus appeared to have lost control of the vehicle as it veered towards the right lane through which the bike was supposed to pass through.
Speed is believed to be the main cause of the accident.
The collision was so devastating that the bike and its occupants were flung into a roadside drain leading to the death of two occupants while a third sustained serious injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Rakkan A Sangma, who was 27 years old and Tengrik K Sangma was 19 years old, both hailing from neighbouring Chapahati village.
The injured pillion rider Diluet R Marak, hailing from Kendrekona village, has been admitted to a hospital in Tura.
The driver of the bus along with its passengers fled from the scene shortly after the accident.
