SHILLONG: A woman from Jaintia Hills has gone missing from Guwahati on February 2.
Jemina Rymbai, the mother of Lammidaka Rymbai, has lodged a missing complaint stating that her daughter was missing since February 2.
Lammidaka worked as an intern at GNRC Hospital and stayed as a paying guest at Devajani Borgohain’s house at Super Market, which is 50 m away from the hospital.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the mother, said, “I spoke with her last on February 2 at 6.30 pm and after that her phone was switched off.”
Later, there were repeated attempts to call her but there was no reply.
Jemina filed an FIR at Dispur Police Station on February 21. In the FIR, she stated that on February 17, when she called her daughter, an unknown man took the call and told her that he picked up the phone from the road.
He told Jemina that he does not know Lammidaka. After that, the phone was switched off again.
Jemina added in the FIR that on arriving at Borgohain’s house, Jemina found that her daughter left the house on February 1 to visit home.
The aggrieved mother complained that she got little help from Assam police. In this connection, she filed an FIR at Lumdiengjri Police Station on February 26.
She informed that a person was arrested on April 2 after her daughter’s mobile phone was seized from him.
The family members went to meet the arrested man on April 3 and found out from him that he took Lammidaka’s SIM card and purse.
“He said he left her on the way to Brahmaputra,” Jemina said.
“There was no support from Assam police. It was only after the intervention of the Meghalaya Police that they were able to trace the culprit,” the mother said and added that the IO of Assam police was not helpful and would give excuses whenever they wanted to meet him.
