Wild male elephant kills four, six injured

Coimbatore, June 2 (UNI) A wild male elephant aged about 15 years killed four persons including a 12-year-old girl and injured over six persons at Ganeshapuram and Vellalore outskirts here last night.
Forest official sources said the elephant is wandering in the Madhukkari area on the outskirts of the city since last two days and it had injured forest guards Vijay and Karthik two days back. They were undergoing treatment at Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) hospital here.
The same elephant walked towards Pothanur and killed Gayathri (12) who was sleeping along with her father outside of their house.
The father was injured in his leg and admitted to the CMC hospital. Later early morning the elephant went to Vellalore and it killed Nagarathinam (57) and Jyothimani (73) when they came out of their house for nature call.
In the same area, the elephant also killed Palanisamy (77) and injured over six persons.
Forest officials rushed to the spot and asked the residents not to venture out from the house and are planning to catch the elephant using Kumki (trained) elephants. Already one kumki elephant has reached the place and are expecting two more elephants soon.
The officials said the elephant will be catched before tonight. UNI
