Swachhta Utsav observed in Williamnagar

 TURA: The State Water and Sanitation in Collaboration with the District Water and Sanitation Mission observed the Swachhta Utsav or the Cleanliness Week for two days at East Garo Hills, Williamnagar in which Deputy Commissioner, Pravin Bakshi was the chief guest.

Deputy Commissioner was very elated with the outstanding participation of about thousand students from different schools of Williamnagar in the campaign. He highlighted the importance of health and hygiene and how they are inter related with each other. Sanitation is a habit which has to be developed and urge one and all present to pass the message to others.

B K Hajong, ADM, in his speech called upon the people to bring about committed effort to spread cleanliness in and around the town.

He also mentioned about other contagious diseases spreading in the area due to low sanitation, hygiene and open defecation.

A painting competition with health and hygiene as the theme was organized on Saturday at Sacred Heart School, Williamnagar. About 300 students participated in the competition in the presence of lot of students, teachers from different schools in and around Williamnagar.

A rally displaying slogans on proper sanitation and personal hygiene to bring about sanitation awareness among the students of the district was held on Sunday which later culminated at DRDA Hall. It was followed by award distribution by the dignitaries present at the function.

Others who spoke on the occasion are Sub-Divisional Education Officer, H Kharmakar, Mehalin S Marak, Representative Women group, etc.

Apart from school students, teachers, block coordinators, women groups, were present at the function. Bickson Marak, Block Coordinator chaired the function.
