SHILLONG: The State BJP will celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three years in office in all districts this month. The celebrations will begin from Ampati, which is represented by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, on June 7.
State BJP president Shibun Lyngdoh said on Tuesday, “Our party workers in Ampati feel that June will be good as people will take the (weekly) bazaar days into consideration so that it will be convenient for them to take part in the celebrations.”
When pointed out that Ampati is Sangma’s stronghold, Lyngdoh said, “Every constituency is important and every vote counts.”
The events, titled ‘Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas sammelans’, will be organised in coordination with Indian Oil Corporation, NEEPCO and BSNL.
Altogether 583 locations across the country have been identified for the sammelans (conference) which will highlight the NDA government’s achievements and central schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, Jan Dhan Yojana, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and UDAN, among others.
Replying to a query by a reporter on the ban on cow slaughter, Lyngdoh said the matter was already clarified by BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli.
“As a State party, we have to go according to the central leaders’ direction. I don’t feel that it has touched the sentiments of the people in Meghalaya,” Lyngdoh said.
On the chief minister’s comment that cow slaughter is a state subject, the BJP leader said, “I think he will take care of it. The Congress has nothing to say about development.”
The celebration will begin at Ampati in South West Garo Hills on June 7, Umsning in Ri Bhoi district on June 8, Amlarem in West Jaintia Hills on June 10, Sohra in East Khasi Hills on June 13, Selsella in West Garo Hills and Kharkutta in East Garo Hills on June 12 and 15, respectively, and Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills on June 17.
Speaking on membership, Lyngdoh said, “The door is open 24×7 and anyone can join or leave the party anytime.”
