Joint World Environment Day celebration in city

SHILLONG: The World Environment Day was celebrated on Monday jointly by Goreto Socio Cultural and Welfare Society, Polo, Sacred Heart Theological College, Mawlai, The Shillong Club Ltd. and State Bank of India, Polo Bazaar Branch at Golf Club, Shillong.
Pynthorumkhrah MLA A.L Hek graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Others present on the occasion included A. H Scott Lyngdoh and Arch Bishop Dominic Jala. On the occasion, saplings were planted in and around Golf Link area. A cleaning drive was also conducted.
Meanwhile, the Art of Living observed the World Environment Day with the staff and officers of NIFT Shillong by planting saplings.
World Environment Day was also observed at Resubelpara Girls’ Higher Secondary School, North Garo Hills. Church leaders, community leaders, teachers, student of different schools, advocate RG Momin, Research Officer District Planning and District Programme Manager of IBDLP came together to discuss about global warming and climate change.
The Environment Protection Committee of Youth Hostels Association of India State Branch in collaboration with East Khasi Hills district unit of YHAI organised recitation competition based on the, ” connecting people to nature”. The venue of the programme was Lieulong, Pomlakrai in East Khasi Hills. Six schools participated in the competition.
