Historian Basudev Chatterji passes away

New Delhi: Eminent historian Basudev Chatterji, also the former chairman of Indian Council for Historical Research (ICHR) passed away on Thursday in Guwahati in Assam.
Chatterji had been an academician and taught at St Stephen’s College in Delhi, University of Hyderabad besides supervising undergraduates at the University of Cambridge.
He had also proposed for documenting histories both archival as well as non-archival materials such as church records, private letters of the Second World War period, oral histories, folktales and folk songs.
The books ‘Trade, Tariffs and Empire : Lancashire and British Policy in India’, and ‘Dictionary of Martyrs India’s Freedom Struggle’ were among his works. (PTI)
