Ban on use of poison in water bodies

Nongpoh: The District Magistrate, Ri Bhoi on Thursday passed a prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC in the entire district prohibiting any industries or persons etc., indulging in or resorting to the act of poisoning of rivers, streams or any other water bodies with the intention to cause widespread destruction of aquatic life.
This order has been issued in view of large scale poisoning of rivers, streams and other water bodies in the district due to dumping of earth and solid wastes and discharge of wastes etc., into the drain/streams by the industries and individuals.
