SHILLONG: The wait for an education policy is getting longer as the State is still waiting for central guidelines.
Speaking to The Shillong Times, Minister in charge of School Education and Literacy Deborah Marak said the State Government is waiting for the National Education Policy before formulating its own.
“We will have to see the national policy since many of its features will not suit us and we have to design our policy keeping in mind the local needs,” Marak said.
The minister also reiterated that the government is committed to bringing out the State Education Policy at the earliest for the betterment of the education sector.
Revision of no-detention policy, promotion of Sanskrit and bringing back Class X board examinations are some of the key changes that the Draft National Education Policy talks about.
