NONGPOH: A group of miscreants pelted stones at two houses at Pahamsyiem village in Ri Bhoi in the wee hours on Tuesday despite tight security.
This incident occurred around 2am on Tuesday. The miscreants, who took advantage of the darkness due to power cut, pelted stones and broke window panes with an iron rod, witnesses said. Several villages here are living in darkness for the last four days due to a defective transformer that is yet to be replaced by MeECL.
The two rented houses are owned by Rophina Lyngdoh. The tenants are Slianghun Nongrum, Senthias Sangma, Phetrict Momin, Kedin Marak and Syian Paite.
Slianghun Nongrum said, “The front window panes of the houses are all broken as the miscreants just came to hit the window glass and fled away after that.”
She also informed that her daughter had a miraculous escape when the miscreants hit the window pane of the room in which they were sleeping and that the miscreants fled away when people came out and shouted for help. No one was injured in the incident.
Ri Bhoi police along with CRPF came to the spot immediately after being informed.
Moreover, the owner of the rented house, Rophina Lyngdoh, on Tuesday filed an FIR with Nongpoh police seeking stringent action against the perpetrators.
Earlier, a group of miscreants also burnt tyres at a junction near the Bethany Hospital at Pahamsyiem village.
