SHILLONG: Indian bio-medical engineer Kanav Kahol, who developed a software combining tablet and android for multiple health check-ups, is in Shillong to help the State explore the use of technology for marketing products.
Kahol, who returned from the US after working on projects for the blind and creating video games, interacted with youths and women in parts of Khasi Hills to identify the market-driven technology.
During his one-week stay, Kahol visited Mylliem, Mawphlang, Sohra and adjoining places to have first-hand knowledge on the potential of the areas.
Kahol, a PhD holder from Arizona State University, said he wants to explore the role of technology in helping the youths become independent instead of depending on Government jobs.
As computer engineer, he wants to use mobile computing and other technologies to improve the living condition of the people of the State.
Giving an example, Kahol said he had asked a few women in Mylliem on the need to use weighing scale before selling pigs as at present there is no weighing system. The weighing scales can be ordered online, he added.
Kahol was an assistant professor at the School of Biological and Health Systems Engineering at Arizona State University before he returned to India.
His innovation, Swasthya Slate, the mobile diagnostic tablet can carry out 33 diagnostic tests, including ECG, blood pressure, malaria and pregnancy.
