BJP’s Assam alliance partners support Kovind for President

Guwahati, June 20 (IANS) The BJP’s alliance partners in Assam – the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland Peoples’ Front (BPF) – have also decided to extend their support to the NDA’s Presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind, it was announced on Tuesday.

“Our party has named Ram Nath Kovind as the Presidential candidate considering his distinguished political career. He also represents a backward community and we appealed all the 126 legislators in Assam to cast their votes to him,” said state Health and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma a press conference.

Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta of the AGP and BPF spokesman Biswajit Daimary were also present.

“Our party as a partner of the NDA government in Delhi and as a part of the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) alliancer has already decided to support the NDA’s candidate for the Presidential polls,” said Mahanta.

Similarly, Biswajit Daimary also announced his party’s decision to support the NDA candidate and appealed to the other opposition parties to support the NDA’s candidate.
