St Edmund’s to play Shillong college in final

SHILLONG: St.Edmund’s College beat defending champions Umshyrpi College by eight runs while Shillong College defeated BBS College by a convincing margin of eight wickets to enter the finals of the Inter College Cricket Tournament 2011 at the Cricket Ground,Polo on Friday.

In the first match, St.Edmund’s College won the toss and elected to bat. The Edmund’s batsmen put up a challenging total of 112 for the loss eight wickets in 20 overs. Swarajeet Das (52) continued his good form with a scintillating half century supported by Dipankar Dutta’s quick fire 22 while Navdeep Bhagat and Steven Lyngdoh took two wickets each for Umshyrpi.In reply, Umshyrpi College were restricted by tight bowling and fielding of the Edmundians and could manage 104 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Steven Lyngdoh scored 24 runs while Andrew Thabah took three wickets for 15 runs.

In the second match,BBS College scored a modest 98/8 after they won the toss and elected to bat against Shillong College. Sanjeev Chettri scored 24 runs while Arvind took three wickets for 23 runs. In reply Shillong College lost two quick wickets but Sylvester (51*) made sure his team got through with a patient knock and reached the target in 15.3 overs. The finals will be played on Saturday.
