SHILLONG: Taking into account the popularity of football in the State, Ten Action plus sports channel is keen to provide live coverage to maximum of the home matches of Shillong Lajong during the ongoing I-League.

Ten Action plus head of marketing Deependra Sehajpal said that the channel would do its best to meet the expectations of the people of the region. “I would definitely take up with the management the wish of the people of seeing the home matches of Shillong Lajong live,” he said.

The Ten Action official however felt that logistical problems arising due to distant location could pose problems in covering matches played here.

He admitted that there is a need to start covering matches which are played outside the country’s traditional football centres like Kolkata and Goa.

“The channel in the near future would definitely look forward to expand its network and cover matches in other parts of the country like Shillong and Pune which gave birth to new emerging football clubs that have added new life to Indian football,” Sehajpal said.

Though there is a long way to go for Indian football to reach the same level as cricket, Ten Action plus Managing Head felt that football ‘definitely has the future’ since it is a common man’s game and his channel is committed to a long relation with Indian football.

Ten action would provide live telecast of around 75 matches in this current season of I League and the channel is planning to start the popular pre-match football show called the Countdown to Kickoff (C2K) to be hosted by experts who would review the matches to be played.

“We are planning to start this concept in the match which shall be played at Salt Lake stadium, Kolkata. We would rope in experts from Dubai along with top former Indian footballers to host theshow,” he said.
