TURA: A 12-year-old school girl became the victim of a rapist who was out on bail in Williamnagar in East Garo Hills.
The 39-year-old accused, Sengsang T Sangma, attacked the girl, who stays in a rented house owned by his uncle at Aglanggre locality of Tura, on June 23.
The minor’s family initially forced her to keep the matter under wraps but when a child protection team came to the house, she revealed her plight. The girl told the members that Sangma attacked her when his uncle was away with his family. He took the minor girl to a nearby forest and raped her. When the girl raised alarm, a few locals came to her rescue.
But by the time a case was registered at the women’s police station, the accused had already fled. Police are looking for Sangma.
