Shillong: Meghalaya’s minister in charge of Taxation, Zenith Sangma who along with other Congress leaders stayed away from Friday night’s official launching of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) in New Delhi, said the protest was against breach of protocol committed by the BJP-led NDA government.
Sangma on Saturday informed that the party collectively decided to skip the function since the President was invited for the function but it was the Prime Minister who launched the GST. “This is not only a breach of protocol but an insult to the nation,” he said.
Sangma commented that there was no need to hold such a celebration for the GST launch when many important programmes in the past were launched without much fanfare.
“It is not proper to celebrate when farmers are suffering and many traders are protesting,”, the minister said.
