Bicycle march demanding Bodoland state

Guwahati: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) on Friday started a long bicycle march in demand of a separate Bodoland state, carved out of parts of Assam.

More than 1000 riders will participate in the bicycle march, which started from Simaltapur, Srirampur, in Kokrajhar district at 0700 hrs this morning, ABSU sources said.

The bicycle march will travel through national highways 31 and 52 and end at Thelamara in Sonitpur district on November 15.

Several Bodo organisations, including the ABSU, had raised the pitch demanding a separate Bodoland state. The Bodoland areas already have an autonomous council governing it. (UNI)

Mizoram Assembly session from Dec 13

Aizawl: Mizoram Governor Vakkom Purushothaman on Friday summoned the winter session of the state legislature from December 13, assembly secretariat sources said. The sources said that detailed programme of the session including the duration would be chalked out soon by the Business Advisory Committee chaired by Speaker R Romawia. (PTI)

British Council to train teachers in Assam

Guwahati: The British Council on Friday signed an agreement with the Assam Government to enhance spelling, listening, reading and writing skills in English for primary teachers from Classes I to V in Assam.

The agreement was signed by Sarbha Siksha Abhijan mission director L S Changson, on behalf of Assam government, and Director, British Council, Eastern India, Sujata Sen. The training will be conducted in three phases across 26 districts of the state between January and June next year. (UNI)

ULFA cadre held

Guwahati: A hardcore ULFA militant was on Friday arrested from Lachit Nagar area of Assam’s main city Guwahati by an team of Assam Police. Police said the arrest was made during a raid carried out on the basis of specific input. An ULFA cadre, Pankaj Gogoi alias Kutub Gogoi, was arrested from a house in Lachit Nagar area. (UNI)
