Kohima: Nagaland has finally got a full-fledged Disaster Response Force with the completion of a month-long course by the first batch of the State Disaster Response Force at Central Training Institute, Tolovi village under Dimapur district.

Official sources here today said speaking as the chief guest on the occassion on Tuesday last, Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L Imchen informed that the first batch of the SDRF was constituted by 101 jawans form the ‘Daring Ninth’ (9th Indian Reserve Battalion).

He admitted that the introduction of the first SDRF came as a major relief to the state government. He conceded that until recently Disaster Management was not in the priority agenda of the government.

The home minister reasoned that the factor behind Disaster Management being relegated to the bottom of the priority list until recently was because Nagaland had not seen any major natural disaster so far.

”But it is good that we are prepared now,” he said and suggested that the training period of 30 days be extended to at least 45 days.

Nagaland Parliamentary Secretary for Home Guards and Prisons Wochumo Kithan was the guest of honor on the occasion, sources said. (UNI)
