SHILLONG: The NSS Unit of St. Edmund’s College, Shillong had organised an orientation programme for the newly inducted volunteers of the college especially the first semester students of Arts, Commerce, Science, Social Work and BCA.
About 500 newly enrolled students attended the orientation on the history, objectives and activities of the NSS.
The Unit also inducted two new programme officers on the occasion besides the oath taken by the newly appointed animators and programme officers.
The principal Dr S. Lamare encouraged the students to take part in extra-curricular activities provided in the college where NSS is one.
On a similar note Prof G. Kharkongor, the IQAC coordinator and chief advisor of NSS said that the college has produced outstanding volunteers, who have done the college and the state proud by their performance. Over the years the NSS has contributed towards the development of various communities that the NSS have adopted and in turn the volunteers have learnt so much from the various activities of the NSS.
The students presented the theme song of NSS besides a powerpoint presentation on the activities of NSS over the years. The unit has 5 programme officers and more than 1100 volunteers.
