SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Transport Corporation Workers’ Union (MTCWU) has asserted that it may even seek the Centre’s intervention into the sudden transfer of Managing Director A Nikhla from the corporation.
Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, president of the corporation Erwin Sutnga said, “Even the Central Government has a say in the functioning of the corporation and the State Government cannot manage it according to its whims and fancies”.
The workers union which has called for a strike demanding immediate revoking of the transfer order of A Nikhla has made it clear that it would not bow down until the demand is met.
The strike started on June 27.
Sutnga pointed out that Nikhla had done a great job in her short tenure of nine months and added an officer should be retained in a post for a period of three years.
“If she (Nikhla) is removed, we fear that all the reforms taken up by her for the benefit of the employees would come to a stop,” he said.
Demanding that the ad hoc system of management in the Corporation should cease to exist, he added that Nikha, in her tenure, plugged revenue leakages besides tracking corruption within the corporation.
Maintaining that government action in the matter is not justified, Sutnga added that the Union is ready to hold discussion with the government.
He also said that the Union has already submitted a memorandum in this regard to Transport Minister, HDR Lyngdoh and Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma but till date there has been no response from the government.
