GUWAHATI: Assam, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday asserted that illegal migrants would not be allowed to take shelter in the state while rights and interests of all genuine Indian citizens would be protected at any cost.

Launching Ujjwala Scheme at Golokganj in illegal-migrants infested Dhubri district of Assam, Sonowal called upon the people of Dhubri to be alert in thwarting any nefarious design of anti-social elements and asked them not to allow Dhubri to be used as a shelter for illegal immigrants.

Regarding on-going agitation for Scheduled Tribe status by six communities in Assam, Sonowal said the government was committed to accord ST status to six communities and government’s intention in this regard should not be doubted. He also informed that a decision in this regard would be taken very soon taking into view the concerns of all stake holders and matter will be resolved amicably.

Sonowal on Saturday informed that the long overdue expansion of the State Cabinet would be carious out soon after the forthcoming presidential election. The state cabinet has been functioning with only 11 minister since the BJP-led government assumed charge in May last year while there is provision of induction of seven more ministers in the cabinet.
