Julias Dorphang made member of two assembly committees

SHILLONG: Mawhati MLA, Julias Dorphang who was arrested on charges of rape of a minor girl has been accommodated as member in two committees of Meghalaya Legislative Assembly.

This was informed in a notification issued by Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Secretariat on Friday about the constitution of different committees of the Assembly.

As per the notification, Julias Dorphang has been made member of Committee on Privileges along with other members Paul Lyngdoh, Dikkanchi Shira, Winnerson D Sangma and Salseng A Sangma, who is the chairman of the committee.

Dorphang has also been made member of Committee on Subordinate Legislations which also have Salseng Sangma, T Chyne, P Pangiang and Sanbor Shullai, who is the chairman of the committee.

Julias Dorphang, a former leader of the banned Hynnewtrap National Liberation Council (HNLC), was elected to the Assembly from Mawhati Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) in 2013 election.

MLA Dorphang faces charge of rape of a minor girl in a guest house in the city and in a resort in Ri-Bhoi last year following FIRS had been lodged against him.

After remaining absconded for many days the MLA was arrested from Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) in Guwahati. He is still in the custody Meghalaya police.
