Mawkyrwat: The Khasi Students Union (KSU) South West Khasi Hills District, once again has demanded that the government of Meghalaya should create another Community & Rural Development (C&RD) Block in South West Khasi Hills District at Umdohlun to ease the difficulty faced by the people of the District especially those from the far flung areas.
“If the State Government is serious in its claim that it wants to bring development to the whole State, it should create another C&RD Block in Umdohlun that will cover villages in Mariem area, Warsan Lyngdoh area, and Phlangdiloin area which are neglected by successive governments for many years,” KSU SWKHD president, Forwardman Nongrem said.
Nongrem said that the people from Umdohlun area are facing many problems to visit Mawkyrwat or Ranikor for the MGNREGS, National Social Assistance Programme, and other schemes because of the distance and especially that they have to walk for hours due to lack of road communication. The KSU also demanded that the MLAs and MDCs of Mawkyrwat and Ranikor Constituencies should seriously take up the issue with the State Government and this issue should not remain as a political agenda during elections campaign.
