SHILLONG: The South West Khasi Hills police are co-ordinating with their Bangladeshi counterpart to rescue a 34-year-old who was kidnapped on Saturday.
Police suspect that the kidnappers, along with Ricky Nongpyniar who was abducted from South West Khasi Hills’ Nongjri village, have already crossed the border.
“Support from the Indian side of the border is helping miscreants from Bangladesh to commit such crimes here and efforts are on to identify them,” the police said and added that trans-border criminals take advantage of the porous Indo-Bangla border.
Nongpyniar worked as a gatekeeper of the Hashah clan at Umsur village. A group of about seven miscreants barged into his room on Saturday night with arms and iron rods and kidnapped him. The miscreants also stole Rs 5,000-6,000 in cash and a two-wheeler.
This is the second kidnap in less than three months.
On April 27, 18-year-old Dajied Syiemlieh of Umthied village near Mairang in West Khasi Hills was abducted by a group of Bangladeshis from the same village. He was rescued by Bangladeshi police on May 15 from Kolchanda village under Sherpur district.
