Of the total project cost (Rs 1.80 crore) the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has already released Rs. 90 lakh to carry out the plan. “We have already floated tender and work for commissioning solar power plants will start very shortly”, said Subhash Chowdhury, Director and CEO of TREDA here on Tuesday.

He said that PHCs and Boarding Houses of rural areas where grip-power is yet to reach or no feasible would get top priority. In fact, the TREDA is following the guideline of the Ministry which is focusing on bringing rural areas under the non-conventional energy facility.

One solar power plant will be set up in Governor House to popularize solar energy. This will be a demonstration project with an estimated cost of Rs 1 crore. As per the plan, water pumping system, hot-water system and lighting in and around the garden will be energized by the plant. Principal Secretary GK Rao had had a meeting with officials from concerned departments. “We are expecting to initiate the work within next six months and the entire project is scheduled to be completed within one year’.
