NONGSTOIN: The gathering of the Myrthong clan held on Tuesday extended support to the NPP ticket aspirant from Mawshynrut constituency.
More than 500 members of the Myrthong clan held a meeting at Janepih in Mawshynrut after they accepted the letter of Gigur Myrthong to support him.
The meeting unanimously endorsed the candidature of Gigur, who was also present.
The leaders of the Myrthong encouraged him to fight against sitting HSPDP MLA Witting Mawsor.
C. Myrthong, Secretary of the clan in Mawshynrut, told reporters that the meeting was planned after the clan received a letter from Gigur stating his keenness to contest on NPP ticket.
“We are proud to know that from our clan there are people who want to lead such a big constituency.”
“We don’t know whether he would get a chance to win but as he is from our clan, we don’t have any option but to support him in whatever way, a lady clan leader,” SL Myrthong said.
Khosland Myrthong, another leader of the clan, said in Mawshynrut, more than 3,000 voters are from the clan and if they support Gigur, NPP will win.
Gigur told reporters that he is happy after the members extended support to him as they had decided not to vote for others, if there is a Myrthong clan member to contest the 2018 polls.
