DRSRBD remains firm to oppose railway project after meeting with DC, SP

NONGPOH:  Reiterating their firm stand, the representative of the Dorbar ki Rangbah Shnong Ri Bhoi District (DRSRBD) strongly opposition to commencement of work on Railway line laying project unless the state government pay heed to their demand of implementing the Village Administration Bill (VAB) in the entire Khasi Hills and also come up with strong mechanism to curb influx in the state.

The DRSRBD re-affirmed their stand after they had met the Deputy Commissioner C.P Gotmare and the Superintendent of Police of R—Bhoi district on Wednesday.

The DRSRBD Chairman Rocky Kylla informed that, the meeting with the Deputy Commissioner was to apprise upon him about the current tense situation in the district because of the conflict over expansion of railway line to Byrnihat in Ri-Bhoi district.

During the meeting, the DRSRBD sought the cooperation of the district administration especially the DC to halt the construction work of the railway project, but in repose the DC informed them that he could do nothing to halt the construction work on railway project at this juncture as the land had been handed over to the Railway authority after completion all procedure of land acquisition. He, however, assured to communicate the views of the DRSRBD to his higher-ups in the state government.

The representative of the DRSRBD also met the Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Singh and slammed the unprofessionalism behavior of police department who raided different areas in the district in search of agitating KSU activists without proper inputs and also without consultation with representative of different Dorbar Shnong.

Rocky Kylla said that, the DRSRBD expressed their concern over the highhandedness of the police department that had affected the villager and caused unwanted panic and fear among the local populace especially children of different villages, adding that, the DRSRBD had strongly demanded the police department of the district to immediately stop unfair raid in the name of searching against KSU activist without proper information and also without the consultation of the Dorbar Shnong.
