TURA:  The alliance of the National People’s Party (NPP), BJP and Garo National Council (GNC) has fielded a common candidate to contest the election of Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Garo Hills District Autonomous Council (GHDAC) to be held on July 18 next.

The common candidate of the alliance Sukaram K Sangma, a senior MDC of NPP from Rongrong district council constituency, filed his nomination in Tura on Thursday. He will be pitted against the Congress candidate Boston Marak who also filed nomination on Thursday.

Boston Marah had defected from NPP to join the Congress-led alliance that led to collapse of the NPP-led executive committee of the GHADC and imposition of administrator’s rule in April this year. Boston quit as the CEM a few days back to pave the way for holding election to the post of CEM.
