London:  Swiss star Roger Federer defeated Canadian Milos Raonic in straight sets to cruise into the men’s singles semi-finals at the Wimbledon tennis tournament.

The 35-year-old Federer, who has yet to drop a set in this tournament, needed almost two hours to carve out a 6-4, 6-2, 7-6 (4) victory late on Wednesday evening, reports Efe.

Federer has thus avenged his defeat to Raonic in a five-set epic at last year’s Wimbledon.

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Federer fired 46 winners and committed just nine unforced errors to get into the semi-finals for the 12th time at the All England Club.

The Swiss legend, who held his serve against Raonic, made the most of half of the six break points he was offered and was 0-3 down in the tiebreak, but he managed to win five consecutive points to seal the win.

The former world no. 1, who is aiming to add to his 19 Grand Slam titles, will meet Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic for a place in the final.

Berdych advanced to the semi-finals after Serbian star Novak Djokovic’s withdrew due to an arm injury. (IANS)
