SHILLONG: Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) has denied presence of any camps of North East India militant on their soil.

Addressing a joint press conference here on Saturday after the culmination of Border Coordination Conference among Inspectors General of Border Security Force (BSF) and Region Commanders Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB), Additional Director General, Region Commander, of BGB, Md Zahid Hasan termed mere perception the belief that camps of insurgent based in North East India still existed inside Bangladesh.

He said that the Bangladesh had zero tolerance policy towards such anti-social elements and Bangladeshi leadership at the highest level had adopted a tough stand against any insurgent groups.

Inspector General of BSF, Meghalaya frontier, PK Dubey corroborated the statement of Zahid Hasan by reiterated that there was no regulated militant camp in Bangladesh as on date as those existed 10-15 years back and there had been coordinated action from Border Guard Bangladesh against such anti-social elements.

He, however, added that the insurgents were hiding in forest while their relatives were staying in Bangladesh by hiding their identity and marrying girls there.

The matter was also discussed when the delegation of BGB and BSF met the Meghalaya Director General of Police on Friday and an action plan was drawn to gather intelligence about the people who were hiding in Bangladesh.

“We will try to gather intelligence about them and give it to BGB and they will take necessary action,” Dubey said adding as the insurgents were suspected to be hiding in their relatives’ houses in Bangladesh, the BSF is not getting concrete information about them but the State police and BSF will develop intelligence and share it with BGB for necessary action.
