SHILLONG: Inspector General of BSF, Meghalaya frontier, PK Dubey on Saturday said that Bangladeshi authorities were bound by the law of their country to take necessary legal recourse for handing over anybody who have crossed over to Bangladesh.

Dubey pointed out that these kidnappings were carried out jointly by criminals on both sides of the border but Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) had extended their support to BSF whenever inputs were shared with them about such abductions.

“Whoever is caught by BGB, they would be produced in court for action as they are bound by their law,” he said, adding that they have to investigate the matter since it’s a case of kidnapping.

In a space of few month, two people from South West Khasi Hills District were abducted by Bangladeshi kidnappers and they were taken away to Bangladesh.

On April 27this year, 18-year-old Dajied Syiemlieh of Umthied village near Mairang in West Khasi Hills was abducted by a group of Bangladeshis in South West Khasi Hills District. He was later rescued by Bangladeshi police on May 15 from Kolchanda village under Sherpur district in Bangladesh. However, he is yet to be handed over to India.

Another abduction took place this month when one Ricky Nongpyniar was abducted from South West Khasi Hills’ Nongjri village, and they have already crossed the border.
