99th Garo Labour Corps day observed

Tura: The 99th anniversary of Garo Labour Corps Day was observed at Lower Babupara here on Saturday.
The day is observed on July 16 every year but this year the programme, organised by the Tura Municipal Board, was held a day before because it was a Sunday. This day is specially remembered to mark the safe arrival of the members of the Corps and in fond memory of those who died and performed noble works as recruits of the 69th Garo Labour Corps in France in World War I. Many dignitaries laid floral wreaths on the cenotaph at Babupara on Saturday. The salutation was done by the District Police and the 2nd MLP Battalion Goeragre.
A function was held at the District Auditorium here. Skylance G Momin, retired IGP and president of the Council of Nokmas in Tura, was the chief guest.
