SHILLONG: The youth wing of the Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) has reiterated its demand for introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system and resolution of boundary issues in the state before going ahead with the railway project.

In a statement issued here, state youth wing president, Thomas Passah condemned the state government led by Mukul Sangma for taking the railway issue very lightly. He said, “It is not the time for talks. The state government should decide to do away with the railway project.”

He added that their demand to stop the railway project stems from the growing menace of influx into the state and asserted that railways will not usher in development in the state but will overwhelm the already minority indigenous community.

Passah has urged the people to extend support to the organization to oppose Sangma’s (CM’s) design to “suppress the indigenous community.”
