SHILLONG: The fall of the Executive Committee of the NPP-GNC-BJP alliance was a result of the members’ greed for power and money, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma said on Wednesday, a day after the Congress regained power in the GHADC.
“They have probably been fighting for money after the huge assistance came as part of the exercise with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj,” Sangma told media persons.
Referring to the adage that money is the root cause of all evils, the chief minister said, “When people cannot control their greed for money this is what happens. People have fallen on their own due to their greed for power and money.”
The victory of the Congress, which has only seven members, in the District Council, has boosted the morale of the party that has been witnessing internal conflicts and threat from BJP.
“After the last election to the GHADC, I had told all Congress MDCs not to form the Executive Committee as the mandate is not for the party. It was not a suggestion but a directive,” Sangma said and added that the Congress allowed NPP, GNC and their like-minded members of BJP to come to power. With the fall in the EC of the NPP-GNC-BJP, Sangma asserted that he has proven to the world that they have been all along the partners of BJP though they claimed to have maintained distance.
