Kidnappers release captives near Tura

TURA: Two abducted employees of a construction company were freed on Saturday morning after police launched a counter-insurgency operation on Friday.
The manager and the cook of the firm were kidnapped on Thursday night. The company they work for is constructing a parking site at at Akonggre locality not far from Tura main market.
The gang took the duo in the direction of the Kherapara-Dalu Road. The manager is from Rajasthan and the cook lives in Shillong.
On Friday, Tura police were able to locate the hideout of the group that had taken the two workers up the Tura peak area.
“They were keeping the victims in the Rongkugre area which is on the other side of the Tura peak. We launched two simultaneous operations to nab them when the captives were released on Saturday morning,” said a senior police officer.
Both victims managed to reach the main road at 12th mile area on the Kherapara-Dalu road.
According to the victims, the gang of four appeared to be petty criminals who had in their possession two country-made weapons.
Garo Hills has long been plagued with such criminal gangs who carry out extortion and kidnaps. However, in the recent months several arrests of such groups had led to a drastic reduction in crime.
