Tura: Sericulture and Weaving Minister Clement Marak has reiterated the Government’s commitment to creating viable opportunities for women weavers by upgrading technology.
Addressing a gathering at a function organised by his department at a lower primary schoolin Dalu in West Garo Hills on Saturday, the minister called for improvement in quality of products with latest designs and technology.
Yarns and looms were distributed to 12 self-help groups here on Saturday. Marak was acompanied by Parliamentary Secretary Kenethson R Sangma.
The scheme for distribution of yarns and looms under the Income Generation Programme for Weavers was sanctioned in 2016 to revive the age-old tradition of weaving by women in the State.
Sangma asked weavers to form groups and register themselves to avail themselves of the handloom sets so that they can start their production units.
