SHILLONG: With police cautious about the move of HYC to implement ILP with the support of traditional heads, the pressure group said on Monday that there is nothing wrong in checking the antecedents of doubtful persons who enter various localities.
In a reaction to the stand of East Khasi Hills SP Davis Marak against the move of HYC to prevent entry of outsiders, HYC General Secretary Robert Kharjahrin said as per customs, the traditional heads can always check and verify the antecedents of the people who enter various localities.
“During the British period, even David Scott had sought permission from traditional heads,” Kharjahrin said.
Clarifying on the question of seeking permission for carrying out agitations, the HYC leader said the organisation believed in peaceful protests.
“We had always sought permission from the district administration whenever any demonstration is announced,” he said.
Kharjahrin also welcomed police vigil by saying at least the HYC members will be protected by the additional police security.
