SHILLONG: The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) has accused the Narendra Modi-led NDA government at the Centre of discriminating against the working class.
Addressing a press conference here in the city on Friday, INTUC National President Dinesh Sharma said hundreds of labourers, farmers and poor people in the country are committing suicide and the Centre remains unfazed.
He further alleged that the Centre has to pay around Rs 27,000 crore to farmers in the country.
“If they don’t pay the money to farmers, we will protest outside Parliament,” he said.
Demanding a life insurance of Rs 10 lakh each, besides medical facilities for the labour class, he said labourers in the country should be registered for free at the labour commissioner’s office and the Centre should take care of the poor in the country.
The Union also slammed the NDA Government over the situation in Assam where floods created havoc recently.
“Though people are suffering in Assam, the Central Government has not given even five rupees to the State,” he said and added that Assam has gone back 20 years in terms of development under the BJP regime.
Meanwhile, the National General Secretary of the Union, Mehboob Hussain said they would work to strengthen the Congress in the entire country so that the party comes back to power in 2019.
The delegation, which is on a visit to the northeastern states also met the top party functionaries of the Congress in Meghalaya.
