62 cases disposed in Tura Lok Adalat

 TURA: The holding of the third Lok Adalat in Tura this year resulted in the successful disposal of 62 cases and compensation given to complainants amounting to Rs. 27.93 lakh on Saturday.

Under the aegis of the Meghalaya Legal Services Authority, the Lok Adalat was organized at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tura and 205 cases were put up for disposal of which 24 were cases related to Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT). Of these nine MACT cases were successfully disposed and the amount of twenty-seven lakhs given as compensation to various complainants.Five courts were set up to dispose cases ranging fro MACT, Maintenance cases under section 125 of CrPC, land dispute cases and GR compoundable cases.

Out of the 205 cases put up 143 could not be settled mainly because some of the parties did not turn up for the settlement while others could not reach any compromise .While the motor accident cases were taken up in the court of the Deputy Commissioner, Sanjay Goyal, while the other cases were taken up in the courts of senior magistrates Ambrose Marak, Levestoe Ch Marak, A V D Shira and D B G Momin.
