SHILLONG: The mother of the boy who was allegedly beaten up in West Jaintia Hills has filed an FIR on Saturday seeking probe into the incident.
The mother, Sistina Lamare, said her 13-year-old son was picked up by VDP members and then taken to the police station on Friday.
According to Lamare, the incident happened when the boy was fetching water for her while she was working at a construction site.
The FIR said the boy was taken to the police station and the policemen asked him if he had stolen eight boxes of chips.
The boy denied the crime but a lady police officer did not believe him.
Another constable identified as A. Binan used a torch like instrument to give an electric shock to him, the mother alleged.
The mother further added that the VDP member Leader Rymbai assaulted him besides using abusive language.
When the mother went to the police station, she sought an explanation from the police, but one Basanti Rymbai representing the social welfare department threatened her.
Lamare alleged that her son was also beaten up last year following which she filed a complaint.
The FIR further said earlier, she saw some boys who were beaten up by the VDP President Subansari before her son was taken to the police station.
She said that the officer in-charge of 8 Mer Out Post, Kynmoo Kyndiat even said that if they make any complaints, they will be treated badly .
The woman said it is a violation of the rights of children and the matter needs to be taken up with law enforcers and the state government.
