TURA: Following a discussion with the West Garo Hills district administration to demand cancellation of permit given for a trade fair the traders of Tura market have withdrawn their threat of indefinite strike from Monday onwards.

Traders under the banner of the Tura Super Market Traders’ Association along with the District Council shopping complex traders union and a host of other business groups had raised objection to the upcoming trade fair at police parade ground, which is in the vicinity of the main market.

The trading community claimed that holding of the fair just before the festive season of Christmas would have resulted in drastic drop in sales for their shops.

West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Sanjay Goyal, in his discussion with the traders association, reminded them over the futility of threatening a closure.

The Deputy commissioner said that calling for a closure of shops was not at all necessary because permission had not been given for any organization or group to hold a fair.

“Without the permission from my office no group can go ahead and hold an event. Already orders have been issued to dismantle the structure coming up for the fair,” Goyal told the traders.
