SHILLONG: The Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) criticised the University of Technology and Management (UTM) for dismissing 14 indigenous employees and demanded that the employees be reinstated within one week.
In a statement issued on Monday, the organisation said the employees include house-keeping staff, laboratory assistant and even faculty members.
A delegation of FKJGP members met Dean D Bhattacharya and Pro-Vice Chancellor Mukesh Saxena who informed that they took the step as UTM has less students.Another reason cited by them was that UTM does not have a proper campus. FKJGP has sought answer from the State Government on whether a university can be set up without proper infrastructure.
