TURA: Police investigation into the arson attack inside the campus of the 2nd MLP Battalion headquarters at Goeragre, 15 km from here, on Monday night is picking up pace with several suspects rounded up for questioning.
A high-level probe committee headed by a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) has been constituted by the Meghalaya police.
Police sources reveal that preliminary findings indicate the attack to be the handiwork of some disgruntled members from within the battalion itself.
“The suspects are believed to be from within the campus itself and they are being questioned. Things will be clear very soon,” said a senior police officer involved in the investigation.
The daring attack had taken the police force by surprise with as many as five new police gypsy vehicles and three civilian two wheelers destroyed in the blaze that took place around midnight.
